Join us IN PERSON Christmas Eve

As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses - and, indeed, to love and protect the most vulnerable in our midst - please note that the wearing of masks is mandatory for all those attending Christmas Eve worship services at Southwood United Church. Masks will be available at the doors for those who need them.

Christmas Eve Celebration Service (All Ages) - 7:00 PM

You’re invited to come and join in on the celebration of Jesus’ birth at Southwood United Church this Christmas Eve at 7:00 PM! This all-ages service will be a chance to be together as a whole church family at Christmas for the first time in three years. It will include carols led by our music team and choir, a pop-up pageant to tell the Christmas story (any child who comes that night can participate!), Scripture readings, a short sermon from our Lead Pastor, and our annual tradition of singing of “Silent Night” as we light candles to close the service. All are welcome. We hope you can make it!

Christmas Eve Contemplative Communion - 11:00 PM

This year’s late-night Christmas Eve service will be set aside as a time of quieter, contemplative worship. In the stillness of the hour before midnight, you’re invited to come and gather around the Lord’s Table as we read Scripture, sing a cappella, rest together in moments of silence, and celebrate Holy Communion. The songs we’ll sing will be a selection of Taizé chants and other simple melodies, along with a couple of more familiar carols. (Please note that this service will not include a sermon or congregational candle-lighting/Silent Night). All are welcome—including to receive Communion.

Christmas Day Worship - NO IN PERSON SERVICE

With Christmas Day falling on a Sunday this year, our Church Council decided that in lieu of an in-person service, our ministry team would send out a shorter, pre-recorded Christmas worship video, to premiere on Christmas morning. So, you’re invited to watch together from home, either at 10:30 AM when it premieres on YouTube, and the church website, or later in the day when it works best for you. May this be a Christmas blessing to you and your family, as you lean into rest and togetherness this Christmas morning. We'll be back In-Person on New Year's Day at 10:30 AM.
